Georgian side defender signed a 2 years contract with the Polish club.

The 26 years old Georgi Popkhadze is a very talented side defender with an interesting career. He began his professional steps in FC Tbilisi in 2003, and even managed to play on loan with the Greek club Olympiakos. In 2006 Popkhadze was transferred to the Danish Viborg FF.

After four years in the Danish League he returned to Georgia to be part of the new project of FC Zestafoni in 2011 but really soon was transferred again, this time to the Austrian Sturm Graz.  At the end of the season the new administration of the team made an accent for local young players, that’s why Popkhadze – as other foreigners of his team – moved to different clubs. The Georgian left footed signed with FC Baku where he played the last season.

The new contract with Jagiellonia Byalistok includes a 2 year deal with a possibility to add a third year to the original contract, a 2+1 format. Jagiellonia plays in the Polish Ekstraklasa and they have another Georgian in their squad, the young midfielder Nika Dzalamidze – who is considered as one of the key players of the team.

The last season Jagiellonia finished on the 10th spot of the league, and the new campaign has started with two victories in a row. The managers expect that the Georgian defender will give power to the left defensive side, as they look for the recovery of Dzalamidze from his long term knee injury.
