After beating Danish AaB Aalborg, the Georgian club Dila Gori qualified to the Third Qualifying Round of the Europe League, where they will face the Croatian side HNK Hajduk Split. This is going to be the first official match between two clubs from Georgia and Croatia in any European competition.

The club from the city of Split gained the continental tournament spot after winning the 2012-2013 Croatian Cup. The final was played in two legs in May, 2013. The finalists were Hajduk Split and NK Lokomotiva. The first game finished with a tight victory for the home Split side 2-1, and the returning match ended with a dramatic 3-3 in Zagreb, enough to give to HNK Hajduk the opportunity to become the cup winners of Croatia for the sixth time.

The team’s current coach is the well known former Croatian player Igor Tudor and their squad is based in native Croatian players mixed with some other European nationalities and two or three Oceanic and African performers.

As Cup winners, NHK Hajduk Split began the Europe League 2013-2014 season from the Second Qualifying Round and they faced the Macedonian side FK Horizont Turnovo. The series were tight, the Croatians managed to win in the Stadion Poljud in Split by 2-1 with the goals of Marko Bencun and Mario Maloca. In the returning match Hajduk had to hold much behind to avoid the extra times, the final result was 1-1 enough to qualify straight and face the Georgian side Dila Gori. The goal in Strumica was scored by Mijo Caktas.

The first match will be played in Split on 1st August, and the returning game will be on the Mikheil Meskhi Stadium in Tbilisi on 8th August.

On UEFA coefficient last published ranking in July,  Hajduk Split is on the 150th spot with 9.375 points, they finished on the 4th place in the Croatian League name Prva NHL behind Dinamo Zagreb, NK Lokomotiva and HNK Rijeka. Their maximum achievements in European tournaments have been qualifying three times to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals and once to UEFA Cup semifinals.

It’s important to stand out that HNK Hajduk Split has 6 players booked from the last match against NK Turnovo, all from the last match. While Dila Gori’s Kakhaber Aladashvili will miss the first match due to accumulation and has other 5 players admonished.

Both matches seem to be very interesting. The winner of the tie will qualify straight to the UEFA Europe League Play-Offs.
