Missed penalty made the difference for the benefit of the visitors.

Georgian champions lost at the Boris Paichadze National Stadium in Tbilisi against Romanian champions after a very difficult fight.

In the first half the visitors looked better with the possession, but Dinamo Tbilisi delivered the most dangerous goal actions in front of the goal of Ciprian Tatarusanu. In the last minute before the break, an outstanding individual action by Georgi Merebashvili from the right side ended with a shoot from the corner of the area, deflected by the goalkeeper of the National Team of Romania.

The second half began with nice balance for both teams; the Georgians looked more comfortable in the midfielder and started to show some interesting collective actions. At the 60th minute Dinamo was already pushing hard with a few attempts, and finally Xisco received a foul inside the box. The Spanish forward decided to shoot the penalty himself, but the kick was too weak and Ciprian Tatarusanu just needed to jump over the ball to stop it.

After the failing of this opportunity the hosts lost concentration and allowed Steaua to press strong from the sides. Three minutes later, the substitute Gabriel Iancu celebrated the first for the visitors after his shoot from long distance frozen Georgi Loria.

With the goal against Dinamo Tbilisi had no reaction, and Steaua started to hold the possession wisely, attempting constantly to the goal of Georgian goalkeeper. In the last minutes the hosts tried to attack with more men and left neglected the defensive area, at the 80th minute Steaua’s players used this in their favor and again Gabriel Iancu managed to make it 0-2.

Dinamo Tbilisi looked needed of a constructive midfielder, a place held usually by Irakli Dzaria and Peter Grajciar, both players are injured.

The next match will be played in Bucaresti on the National Stadium the next Tuesday. It’s difficult to imagine the Georgian team making a return, but there are 90 minutes left and many things can happen. In case of losing this stage, Dinamo Tbilisi will go to the Play Offs of the Europe League.
