Georgian football level revealed after embarrassing defeat of the champions.

40 long years ago Dinamo Tbilisi and Tottenham Hotspur faced each other for the first time, back then Georgian teams were competitive. Despite this fact, Dinamo drew at home 1-1 and lost in London by 5-1. The aggregate result was devastating, but potential looked nice and that’s why in the upcoming years Dinamo became a leader team in the world football.

This time things were quite different, for the Europe League Play Off’s, the long rage of level and quality between Georgian Umaglesi Liga and English Premier League were revealed on the pitch, and the conditions showed how far the aspirations of the Caucasian clubs towards the European official tournaments are.

Dusan Uhrin Jr. tried an experimental defensive line while missing the main defensive midfielder Levan Khmaladze can be considerate as a huge key factor of the marking line.

It’s important to recall that despite the smashing result the game didn’t looked so dominated by the visitors, the possession was shared and Dinamo Tbilisi had a few very strong offensive actions which were cleared by the Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, and the first goals for the “Spurs” came after counterattacks. But also it’s significant to share that Tottenham didn’t play with the complete squad and they looked quite relaxed on the pitch while holding the possession when it was needed.

The next week, the 29th August, will be the returning match on the White Hart Lane in Tottenham, but opportunities for the Georgian Champions to make it to the Europe League Group Stage are impossible to consider.
