The UEFA Euro U19 Lithuania 2013 began with a positive result.

The U19 National Team of Georgia began the Euro with a draw against France. The “AssA” team was missing a few key players as Guram Samushia and David Ubilava due to sanctions, but still looked strong in defense and achieved to have clear scoring opportunities.

The French team qualified to the Euro without conceding a single goal, meanwhile Georgians just received 2. Both teams had an enviable resource in defending since the beginning of the Qualifying Campaign.

Despite that fact both teams had a few clear opportunities to score today and hold a valuable three points, but they missed. The possession was guided by the blues, in the first half left sided Benjamin Mendy was very active and managed to create serious danger with his speed, but in the second half David Mtivlishvili held strong and didn’t allow him to pass anymore.

Georgian youths had two nice opportunities in the last 10 minutes to hit a surprise, Nika Kacharava was active and dominating since his entrance, and his shoot – mildly deflected by the French goalkeeper after a nice combination from the Georgian side – was rejected by a defender from the line of the goal.

Two minutes later, at the 86th, Georgi Pantsulaia’s surprising shoot almost ended into the net of Quentin Beunardeau.

Georgian side looked very impressive when they needed to come out from the pressing zone. The youth Caucasian players felt comfortable moving around with nice close range passes and avoiding long meaningless takeoffs.

The other match of the group was between Serbia and Turkey. The considerate favorites, the Turks, lost 2-1. In two days Georgia will face Serbia and France will play against Turkey.
